Relationships make us happier! The Grant Study, a 75-year study at Harvard University, examined people across a broad spectrum of behaviors, activities, and character traits. This extensive study concluded that those relationships are key to a long life and happiness. It revealed that the depth and meaningfulness of a person’s relationships are the best indicators of their level of happiness. The conclusion was that “happiness is love” and that the depth and number of interactions we have with people determine our level of happiness.
What does this have to do with newsletters, you ask? Social media can provide arbitrary and inner-circle connections with friends. Therefore, the relationship between the Buyer and the Agent, the Borrower and the Loan Officer, creates a special relationship. That relationship is powerful because you facilitate these opportunities in the real world and no matter what they understand about the inner workings of these transactions, even if they understand the underwriting process, they still look to you as the person who got the deal done, found them the right home, or got them the best loan. There is a dependence on you, and what you did to make their dreams a reality.
The reason that the newsletter, most specifically, the Exodus Newsletter, works as successfully as it does is that we focus on that relationship. We believe nurturing that connection to your client at a regular interval is what keeps that relationship intact. That is why our mantra is “Share Yourself, Share Your Knowledge, Become Family.” We share the good things in life with those we care about because of the joy we got from our experiences with those that helped us, and the joy they receive from sharing that experience with others gives our lives meaning. It’s that simple.
The reason the newsletter works so well, however, is multi-faceted. Everyone knows that emails are cheap, automated, and mostly lifeless, but when a physical newsletter hits the mailbox, it is something that comes from you to them. It’s personal. Because you personalize your newsletter, because you share yourself, share your knowledge, and become family at regular intervals, they appreciate you, you’re part of the family. You’re a professional, but you’re also “one of us.” To neglect this is to neglect their need to share their experience of working with you, with those they care about, and to deprive yourself of the prosperity that comes from doing the job you do so well.
By sharing yourself on paper, it shows a willingness to go beyond the usual impersonal email that won’t be read. Sending a real, mailed newsletter shows you put your time, effort, and resources to reach out to them in a way that means something while giving you the platform to really communicate with them as friends do. We know that not everyone is experienced in writing and that’s why we offer help with our Content Help Service. A free service that helps keep that relationship alive.
On the testimonial section of our website, you’ll find pages and pages of Exodus clients that experience this with every newsletter we mail for them. We help many clients personalize their newsletters, and lots of them do it themselves. Some questioned the idea at first and now would never go even one month without it. Some don’t personalize their newsletters against better counsel, but they STILL will not operate their business without it. The Exodus Newsletter is that effective.
